Part of a club statement read: “The Catalan coach has achieved a milestone with the promotion to the highest category for the first time in the history of the club from Huesca. It is, in short, a technician of proven track record, harvested with effort and tenacity since its inception, and now faces a stage with ambition and desire to continue growing as a professional hand in hand with blue and white sports progress.
“Rubi is a coach who is committed to an attractive football and looking to make a colorful game and the liking of players and fans. With extensive training and experience, Rubi arrives at an optimum age to lead a project such as the RCD Espanyol. After training our second team a decade ago, Rubi returns to our Club with a new and exciting challenge: consolidate and enhance the sporting growth of the blue and white flag team in this new stage of the institution.”
Espanyol dismissed former head coach Quique Sanchez Flores in April.
