Atletic Bilbao have appointed former Sevilla boss Eduardo Berizzo as their new head coach after a season of struggle in La Liga.
Bilbao sacked Jose Angel Ziganda last month just one year into his tenure after Ernesto Valverde’s replacement could only lead the club to a 16th place finish last season.
Berizzo has now been handed the opportunity to turn around Bilbao’s fortunes. The 48-year-old was dismissed by Sevilla in December, despite returning to work just weeks earlier following prostrate surgery.

“For me it’s an honour to be here, to defend those common values that we have,” Berizzo said.
“I appreciate all the confidence you’ve given me here, I hope to make Athletic better and have a defined style.
“I want to belong and be part of the Athletic philosophy, there is also a technical part and a sentimental part for the amount of people who have advised me to come here.”
