Espanyol manager Quique Sanchez Flores was delighted to have ended a run of three games without a win following their 1-0 defeat of Atletico Madrid on Friday night.
Sergio Garcia scored an 88th minute winning goal at the RCDE Stadium to hand Diego Simeone's side their first defeat in 17 games in all competitions.
The results left Espanyol in 14th place in La Liga on 20 points from 17 games while Atletico are in second place, on 36 points, six behind leaders Barcelona.
After the match, Sanchez Flores told the club's official website: "We propose the games to play in the best possible way and win them.

"We were frustrated because we did not have a good run, but we knew that sooner or later I had to get a good result.
"It has been a game as close as we could imagine. We leave with the feeling of having won one of the best. What we think in the coming days will be positive."
He added: "We played with pause and waiting for our chance. We look for solutions in front the problems.
"We like that the fans enjoy these serious and complicated games. We gave a good version, but success is to maintain balance. We are very grateful to the fans, they have supported, they have encouraged us and they have pushed us to victory. Without this spirit things are more difficult."
Espanyol next host Levante in the Copa del Rey on Thursday 4 January 2018.
