Ernesto Valverde was delighted with the “pace and dynamism” showed by Barcelona in their 5-0 thrashing of Real Murcia in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.
Paco Alcacer (16), Gerard Pique (56), Aleix Vidal (60), Denis Suarez (74) and Jose Arnaiz all scored in a much-changed Barca side to secure the club’s place in the last-16 of the competition.
With a 3-0 lead from the first leg, the tie as a contest was effectively over when Alcacer scored. Murcia though showed some real fightback, and held out until Pique’s goal, before the floodgates opened.
And after the game, Valverde told the club’s official website: “In this type of game you try and avoid surprises and the best way to do it is to play with pace and dynamism.
“Both in the first leg and in the second leg we were good in that aspect and having got through to the last 16 leaves a pleasant taste in our mouths.”
B-team midfielder Oriol Busquets, defender David Costas and striker Arnaiz all impressed on the night – with Arnaiz netting his third goal in two matches for the first team.
He said: “It the was the dream every kid has, to play at Camp Nou. I have had the fortune to play some minutes and score again. I am happy to have made the most of it.”
And fellow goalscorer, Suarez added: “It was not an easy game because we knew they would sit back at the start. I am happy with the goal and for the other players who play.
“I think the lads who debuted played well. I told them to be relaxed and confident and I think they made the most of their minutes.”
