Barcelona 2 Sevilla 1
- Busquets sees shot cleared
- Alcacer hands Barca the lead
- Pizarro equalises
- Barca’s opening scorer secures the result
Barcelona were the better side and in control of possession and Sergio Busquets saw a good chance cleared. Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic also went close. Paco Alcacer handed Barca the lead before Guido Pizarro got an equaliser largely against the run of the play in the second half.
Alcacer sealed the three points with his second of the game after the break from Ivan Rakitic’s assist.
Barcelona had three chances to open the scoring in the first 10 minutes as Clement Lenglet cleared off the line from Sergio Busquets. Meanwhile, David Soria denied striker Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic fired a long-range shot inches wide.
However, Paco Alcacer put the home side into the lead in the 23rd minute. After Luis Suarez’s pass was miscontrolled by Sergio Escudero, the forward sliding the ball beyond Soria to give Barca the advantage.
It was largely one-way traffic at the Nou Camp as Sevilla offered little threat going forward.

Despite Blaugrana’s dominance in the first stanza, the visitors found a way to hit back after the break when Guido Pizarro powered home Ever Banega’s corner in the 59th minute. Nonetheless, Barca kept up their pressure and it would count as Alcacer touched home Ivan Rakitic’s cross in the 65th minute at the near post.
On the occasion of his 600th appearance, Lionel Messi, who was generally quiet on the night, had a chance to make it 3-1, but he saw his strike saved at his near post by Soria.
The result moves Barcelona 11 points clear of rivals Real Madrid who play Las Palmas on Sunday.
