Álvaro Jiménez's late goal at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Friday night saw Getafe claim a 2-1 win over La Liga rivals Leganes.
Mauro Arambarri opened the scoring for the visitors on 39 minutes before Miguel Ángel Guerrero's 65th-minute equaliser.
Guerrero then saw his 72nd-minute penalty saved before Jiménez secured all three points with his 83rd-minute goal.
Guerrero had an early header well saved by Guaita as Javier Eraso fired wide before a succession of Getafe chances where Djené Dakonam and Juan Cala both headed just wide.
Faycal Fajr couldn't keep his 28th minute shot down as Eraso forced a save from Guaita 10 minutes later.
Pichu Cuéllar though could do nothing to deny Arambarri from firing his shot right into the top corner of the net after picking up the ball from Jorge Molina – to give Getafe the advantage going into the break.
Guerrero failed to put his header from an Omar Ramos delivery on target at the start of the second half as Diego Rico saw his 65 minute shot saved.
Guerrero though made no mistake just moments later with a well-struck shot into the bottom left corner of the net having picked up the ball on the edge of the six-yard box.
But the goalscorer then failed to put his side ahead, when his 72nd-minute penalty was saved after Juan Cala had fouled Gabriel Pires in the box.
With the match certainly there for the taking, Nabil El Zhar saw Guaita stand in his way on 73 minutes with a solid save before Jiménez fired wide.
And after Pires headed over and Arambarri saw his close-range effort blocked, Jiménez fired home from outside the box, after picking up the ball from Fajr following a corner, to win the game and claim the points.
