Moyes plots Premier League signings

Moyes moved to Sociedad in November, six months after an ill-fated spell at Manchester United came to an end, and has guided the Spanish side to 12th in La Liga this term.

He has been linked with vacant Premier League posts at West Ham and Sunderland but, speaking as a studio guest during Sky Sports’ coverage of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey triumph over Athletic Bilbao, insisted his focus was fixed on building a side capable of challenging higher up the table in Spain’s top flight. ??

“No, nothing’s changed (regarding my future),” he said.”I’m really happy at La Real; I’ve enjoyed my first six or so months.??

“The opportunity to get so close to the best team in the world and – arguably – the best players in the world is a great experience for me.

“We’re now out there looking, trying to strengthen the squad.

“The team wasn’t good enough to finish higher than mid-table. We took over when the team was in relegation trouble so we had a good second half of the season.

“We played much better but we need to add a few more goals, some creativity and maybe a defender or two as well. We’ll take it one step at a time and try to build a stronger team.”

Moyes has been repeatedly linked with a summer move for Burnley striker Danny Ings and while he stopped short of confirming any names of interest, he did admit he would look to Emgland for potential reinforcements.

Asked if he was likely to dip into the Premier League market, he added: “Yes, if I could, because I do know the market well.

“There aren’t many British players playing in Spain so if I can get some, great.

“We’re looking at other countries as well – as long as they can improve the squad, it doesn’t really matter where they’re from – and hopefully we can add one or two to what we’ve got.”
