Cristiano Ronaldo may have won the Serie A in his first season at Juventus, but it hasn’t all gone according to plan for the former Real Madrid player.
Juve were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter finals by an unfancied Ajax side, and perhaps it left the Portuguese wanting more from his teammates overall.
To compound his misery, CR7 has just been overtaken by a former teammate in the season scoring charts.
Zidane hails hat-trick hero Benzema as world’s best striker
Karim Benzema netted a stunning hat-trick in a 3-0 La Liga win for Los Blancos over Athletic Bilbao, and in doing so, the Frenchman took his tally for the season to 21 goals domestically.
This makes it two goals more than Ronaldo, who only has 19 Serie A goals for the Bianconeri in a successful enough first season in Turin.
It’s a great achievement for Benzema, who was often playing second fiddle to Ronaldo at Madrid for many years, even though the duo arrived around the same time at the club.
Fair to say that the return of Zinedine Zidane is showing its results on the talented French striker.
