Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has made a big claim, saying club star Ousmane Dembele is better than former Barca player Neymar.
The club president went on to explain that the Spanish giants are using the money earned from Neymar’s deal to build a project with Dembele and Philippe Coutinho. Barcelona signed the Frenchman for €105m afterNeymar’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain for €222m in 2017.
The 21-year-old, in 59 appearances for Barcelona, has scored 18 goals and provided 16 assists. Neymar, on the other hand, has 48 goals and 27 assists in 53 appearances for PSG.
“I explained that we have a project with Dembele and Coutinho with Neymar’s money,” Barcelona club president told TVE in Spain on Monday.
“Dembele’s level is better now than Neymar’s, he’s a much better player than Neymar and he’s already adapted.
“Coutinho is a great player, excellent, he’s getting better and better. It’s not easy to play at Barca – he was here six months last season and he’s complete now. He has the confidence of the coach. He’s a global player and we expect a lot. from him.
“He will continue at Barca. He’s different and Barca needs different players.”
