Argentina and FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi is definitely one of the world’s biggest names in football. Week in and week out, the legend keeps producing stunning individual performances that leave fans open-mouthed in awe.
But how is Lionel Messi as a teammate? We have often heard stories on that as well, with the star always described as “selfless”. And as of latest, midfielder Yayá Touré has added his own insights on the topic – based on his experiences from the time the both of them shared the same dressing room in Barcelona.
Yaya Toure and Messi were teammates at the club between 2007 and 2010, after which the Ivory Coast star left for Manchester City. The star recently commentated during the Champions League game between Barcelona and Manchester United, when he used the chance to explain just how good Lionel Messi is, as a teammate. what the real Lionel Messi is like.
“He’s different, he’s special. He’s the perfect teammate and it’s so much fun playing alongside him,” Toure said.
“Whenever he’s given the ball, he always has three or four players around him. But it’s still difficult to get the ball off him,” the midfielder explained. “Messi is on another level. He’s always above everybody else.”
Toure further added that Messi “didn’t usually talk much” during their time together. “He was always focused on football. He was the perfect teammate for any player. Yeah, he’s a little different. There aren’t many like him,” he concluded.
In their upcoming fixture scheduled for April 17th at the Camp Nou, Barcelona will face Manchester United in the second-leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. As of right now, they have an away goal’s advantage, and will look to utilise that well, when facing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his men.
