Gunners hang on for win

Match summary

It was the home side who went close in the opening stages through Bonaventura. With that said, Henrikh Mkhitaryan got the first goal in the 15th minute.

Just before the break, Ramsey secured the win although there is the second leg to come at the Emirates Stadium on 15 March.

Match report

It was the home team who came out the boldest in the opening exchanges and Giacomo Bonaventura went close with Patrick Cutrone prominent.

From a delivery, Suso saw his curling cross narrowly missed by Bonaventura with an outstretched leg. Soon after Arsenal hit back as Henrikh Mkhitaryan hit the side-netting from Jack Wilshere’s fine cross.

In the 11th minute Cutrone went closer as a poor attempt from Calum Chambers fell to Hakan Çalhanoglu, who like Mkhitaryan hit the side of the net.

Nonetheless, the visitors hit the front in the 15th minute as a superb pass from Mesut Ozil picked out Mkhitaryan, who fired home after rounding Davide Calabria before seeing his effort go beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma into the roof of the net.

Just before the break the Gunners made it 2-0 as Aaron Ramsey made a perfectly timed run through Milan’s defence as he made no mistake from Ozil’s pass to finish with precision after rounding Donnarumma.

After the first stanza, Bonaventura came close to finding a goal back as Davide Calabria’s cross found him in the box, but he shot over the bar. The game had little other action as the 90 minutes wound down.
