Stefan Johansen???s first-half strike looked like it would be enough to clinch a deserved victory and a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League before a brilliant strike from Douglas William Amorim earned Astra their first point in Group D.
Despite conceding the late goal, Deila???s team remain on course to progress from the group, and a victory over Salzburg at Celtic Park in their next match will see them through.
Deila said: ???We deserved to win. We were the better team tonight. The first half was excellent. We scored a nice goal and we controlled the second half quite well, too. But they scored a fantastic goal and there was nothing we could do about that.
???We had chances as well, and we had enough of them to kill off the game and win it. It was one point in the end and I???m not happy about that but it???s better than nothing.
???We controlled the game quite well in the second half. We could have played further forward, attacked more and got the second goal but the goal came out of nothing. It was just a fantastic shot from the wide area in the box.
???We maybe should have cleared it before but in the end we had chances afterwards to kill the game and win 2-1 but it wasn???t to be.
???We have something to work on when we get 1-0 up. We need to keep on playing and be offensive. Maybe we tried to win 1-0 and finish the game but we should go for more.
???We also controlled the game quite well and they didn???t have as many chances against us. The performance was OK but the result should have been better.”
Celtic could have scored again after the equaliser arrived 11 minutes from time, with Silviu Lung Jr thwarting Leigh Griffiths with a wonderful save before the Celtic substitute was denied by the referee after holding off a challenge in the box to shoot past the keeper.
???I haven???t seen it myself but I heard others say it should have been a goal and Leigh said himself that he didn???t do anything,??? said the Hoops boss.
???We should have had 2-1 tonight but sometimes that happens. We have been lucky sometimes and this time it went against us and that???s how football is sometimes.
???We are going to have two difficult matches left but we are in a better position now than we were before the game. We are five points ahead and could kill it off in the next match and get through.???
