PSV head coach Phillip Cocu was left shocked and ashamed following their 5-0 defeat at the hands of lowly Willem II on Saturday.
Ben Rienstra got the scoring underway at the Koning Willem II Stadion on 21 minutes before the hosts grabbed a second from Fran Sol with 59 minutes played.
Sol scored again from the penalty mark on 70 minutes, ahead of another goal from Rienstra (76′) and another converted spot-kick from Sol for his hat-trick in the dying minutes.
Despite leading the Eredivisie standings by a 10-point margin over Ajax, and with only a couple of defeats all season, PSV were undone in all areas of the field against a team fighting against relegation.
Speaking after the game, Cocu said: “It seems clear to me that I have something to say and I hope they also have something to say, this was outrageous, I do not really have words for it.
“They fought for every meter and we did not. We really have to be ashamed, even for the fans who came to see us, it really did not make sense, we’ve lost, but never in such a way, we do not always play big, but always fight.”
Cocu added: “Is it due to the big lead or we have received too many positive reviews? I really do not know.
“We are not allowed to talk about a championship yet, and we must be really ashamed of ourselves.”
