Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe admits the UEFA Champions League defeat to Real Madrid demonstrated why the Spanish giants are a cut above.
The Parisians were expected to give the defending champions a run for their money in the last-16, but in the end Zinedine Zidane’s side secured a comfortable 5-2 aggregate victory over two legs.
Mbappe believes the contest showed why Los Blancos won two consecutive Champions League titles and remain a world-class team that can beat anyone.
“We worked very hard to get our mentality right ahead of the game with Madrid,” Mbappe was quoted as saying by Marca.
“We tried hard and we have some great players at the highest level but Madrid demonstrated the difference between players who are great and those who are champions.
“It was the players who lost it, not (coach) Unai Emery – we went onto the pitch and did not get the result we were aiming for.
“It is important for us to now move on from that defeat and focus on domestic titles and rebuilding for next year, we are all professionals and must think this way.”
