Match Report

It was a cagey opening to the contest from both teams, though Roma’s high pressing was causing the hosts some problems in the opening 10 minutes.

However, Chelsea hit the front in the 11th minute through Luiz. After a pass to Alvaro Morata in the danger zone broke to the Brazil international, he struck home after a good first touch and a finish of precision into the bottom-right corner of the net.

It remained tight, though Radja Nainggolan’s cross just after the half-hour mark found Kolarov from a deflected pass in the area, but the Serbian left-back’s strike was well saved at his near post by Thibaut Courtois.

In the 35th minute, the visitors wasted another great chance as Diego Perotti fired straight at Courtois after good work from Dzeko. They would soon pay the price as Hazard converted from a superb counter-attack after Bruno Peres lost the ball in midfield. Morata picked out the Belgium, who applied the finishing touch at the back post.

Just before the break, Kolarov pulled a goal back after he ran beyond Cesar Azpilicueta to fire home a brilliant strike to give the Italian club hope. Dzeko made it 2-2 in the 64th minute when he powered home a brilliant volley from Federico Fazio’s ball over the top.

Roma sensationally went ahead after Tiemoue Bakayoko gave away a silly foul and Kolarov’s cross found Dzeko once more who made it 3-2. Chelsea responded and it was Hazard who would be the hero as he finished Pedro’s cross to make it 3-3.
