Marco Asensio capped off an incredible debut season for Real Madrid by scoring the fourth goal as they thumped Juventus 4-1 in the Champions League final in Cardiff on Saturday.
And, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder admits he was aware of the importance of Saturday’s win against the Italian champions.
“It’s been a huge step in my career,” Asensio was quoted by FourFourTwo after Saturday’s final.
“This is one of the most important years for me, I hope there will be more like this in the future,” said Asensio.
“It has been amazing. I’m very happy and we shall enjoy it.
“It’s incredible to win with Real Madrid and also to score in a Champions League final. Now we have to celebrate.”
Asensio added: “Since the beginning of the season I knew I wanted to stay here, I wanted to gain minutes to play these kind of games and it’s been an incredible season.
“We won a double that will be in history.”
Asensio, who made his international debut for Spain last season, scored 10 goals for his new club, and will be hopeful of getting more game time in the first team next season as they look to defend both La Liga and Champions League titles.
