Lionel Messi reacts to Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus crashing out of the Champions League

Lionel Messi, who starred in Barcelona’s victory against Manchester United, reacted to the news that arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League.

Goals from Donny van Beek and Barcelona target Matthijs de Ligt served to cancel out Cristiano Ronaldo’s match opener as Ajax beat Juventus 2-1 in Turin to book their spots in the semifinals of the Champions League.

Lionel Messi turned on the style against Manchester United as the Argentine magician scored two en route to a comfortable 3-0 Barcelona victory, consigning the English team to their worst ever aggregate score defeat in European history.

When informed after the game that Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League, Messi had this to say:

“That tells you everything, any team is complicated, be it Liverpool or Porto.

There are those who deserve [to progress], the best [teams], and everything [going forward in the competition] is going to be complicated.”

Barcelona’s progression in the Champions League means that they are still on course to win the treble. And with Lionel Messi’s sensational season in terms of goal scoring, the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t involved in the Champions League may prove to be the turning point in this year’s race for the Ballon d’Or.
