Manchester City advanced to the quarter finals of the Champions League yesterday night, after they won the second-leg fixture of the round-of-16 against Schalke 04, by a scoreline that read 7-0 at the end of full-time.
The 3-2 win by City in the first-leg made the aggregate score 10-2, which in turn meant that Schalke’s defeat was one of the biggest in the Champions League in recent times.
Sergio Aguero started the goal-scoring proceedings in the 35th minute. He scored once again three minutes later. Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus took turns scoring one goal each to complete a total obliteration of the German club.
The game was held at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, and the away fans had to complete a tough journey back home, that too with an extra burden of the heavy loss. But it did not deter them from showing off their team spirit as they sang chants and supported the players and the team, while on their way out of the city.
