Borussia Dortmund has confirmed the club will face Austrian Bundesliga giants Austria Vienna to mark the re-opening of the side’s Generali-Arena in July.
Dortmund has a good relationship with Die Veilchen having played against the team for the opening of the new East Stand in 2008.
Nonetheless, it appears further work has been done to improve the venue’s facilities and size, and thus Dortmund will travel to Austria for a friendly match which will form a part of 2018/19 pre-season preparations.
According to Die Schwarzgelben’s official website, coach Peter Stöger’s men were a unanimous choice to be the opponents for the re-opening later this year.
The club said: “Ahead of the upcoming opening match on 13 July 2018, the tradition-steeped Viennese club polled its fans about whom they would like to face and Dortmund was the number one choice.
“The (protected) sale of tickets will commence on 20 June 2018. Season ticket holders and members will be given the right of first refusal. The regular top match prices for the new season shall apply.”
Both sides are experiencing contrasting fortunes in their respective domestic campaigns this season with Vienna out of the title race in seventh, while the German giants are battling for a top-four finish and are still alive in the Europa League.
