Match Summary

Reus scored for a third Bundesliga game in succession since making his return from a long-term injury last month, which cancelled out Jean-Kevin Augustin’s 29th-minute opener.

Michy Batshuayi missed the best chance of the match in the second half as Peter Stoger’s side were made to settle for a share of the spoils.

The first half was evenly contested as reflected in the scoreline at the break. Dortmund had two goals ruled out for offside as they looked to penetrate the Bulls’ high defensive line.

But a mistake at the back almost let the hosts in early on when Timo Werner latched onto a poor pass from Manuel Akanji and drew a smart save out of Roman Burki with a low strike towards the bottom-left corner of the goal on nine minutes.

Peter Gulacsi was called into action moments later as he palmed away Batshuayi’s rasping effort from inside the box after a loose ball broke for the Belgian striker.

BVB then had the ball in the back of the net twice in the space of nine minutes, but the offside flag came to Leipzig’s rescue on each occasion before they took the lead on 29 minutes.

Andre Schurrle was caught napping on the ball by Naby Keita, who played in Augustin on the left and the French striker curled home into the bottom-right corner of the goal.

However, they were pegged back just nine minutes later as Dortmund finally sprung the offside trap, with Reus running onto Mahmoud Dahoud’s through-ball and rounding Gulacsi on the left to equalise.

The two teams went into the half-time interval all-square, but the visitors should have gone in front 18 minutes into the second half.

Dahoud created the chance with quick feet as he escaped three defenders inside the box before cutting the ball back for an unmarked Batshuayi, who missed the target from just four yards out.

Keita was also wayward at the other end on 75 minutes when he fired well wide of the right post after Werner’s initial shot rebounded into his path.

Yusuf Poulsen had one final opportunity to snatch victory for Leipzig in stoppage time, but he cleared the crossbar with a hopeful effort from 25 yards out.
