Pulisic nets late winner
Borussia Dortmund dominated play and created plenty of chances in the first half, but were behind at the break after Pavel Kaderabek set up Mark Uth for a classy opener.
Dortmund were awarded a penalty just past the hour mark that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tucked home to level matters, and despite a couple of chances for the visitors it was BVB who won it late on with a great goal from Pulisic.
Andriy Yarmolenko should have put Dortmund ahead in just the fifth minute after Florian Grillitsch gifted him a chance on the edge of the box, but with just the goalkeeper to beat he dragged his effort wide.
Aubameyang missed a chance in the 15th minute after Yarmolenko had been released down the right and pulled it back for the Gabon international arriving on the penalty spot, but under pressure from the defender he couldn’t get the right touch and goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was able to claim the ball.
But Hoffenheim then broke the deadlock against the run of play, with Pavel Kaderabek put through on goal by Nadiem Amiri, but rather than look to score himself he squared the ball for Uth to apply the finish.
Hoffenheim grew in confidence as the half-hour mark came and went, passing the ball around nicely to Dortmund’s frustration, and despite a few more scares they were able to hold onto their lead until the half-time whistle.
Hoffenheim began second half as they finished the first, with slow and cautious build-up focused more on preserving their lead than extending it. Dortmund, and Yarmolenko in particular, continued to threaten on the counterattack without managing to make anything happen.
That all changed in the 63rd minute, when some neat interplay between Yarmolenko and Aubameyang saw the latter felled in the box, and he picked himself up to take the penalty himself, sending goalkeeper Baumann the wrong way and picking out the bottom corner.
Kaderabek came close to putting Hoffenheim back in the lead after a neat backheel pass from Adam Szalai released him down the right and he cut inside to look to curl one in, but couldn’t get it to bend back inside the post.

The winner took a while to arrive but finally came in the 89th minute thanks to Pulisic. The American latched onto a long pass from midfield to chip the ball over Baumann and apply the finishing touch on the volley.
