Match Summary

Stuttgart held their own against Bayern for most of the game, working hard to neutralise Die Roten’s threat, but fell behind via a 79th-minute strike from substitute Thomas Müller.

The hosts should have earned a draw after Bayern conceded a 93rd-minute penalty, but Sven Ulreich was on hand to save the day and secure all three points for his side.

Despite Robert Lewandowski having an early chance in the first minute, turning in the box and dragging a shot just wide, Stuttgart did well in the opening stages and fashioned a couple of chances: Chadrac Akolo fired over the bar from the edge of the box before forcing a save from Ulreich after getting a nice backheel from Simon Terodde.

Bayern were pressing for the opener, but were unable to fashion many chances, with Lewandowski getting another sight at goal in the 21st minute but unable to steer it past Ron-Robert Zieler.

Shortly after the half-hour mark Corentin Tolisso worked a shot form the edge of the box, but again Zieler was there to make the save.

Five minutes before halftime Stuttgart almost conceded from a moment of chaos in their box following a Bayern corner, until the referee’s whistle got them out of trouble.

The second half proceeded with plenty of Bayern pressure, while the hosts husts hustled tirelessly to keep them out… until the Thomas Müller entered the fray in place of Tolisso in the 65th minute.

Stuttgart were on their way to earning a point as the final stretch approached, but Müller finally broke the deadlock in the 79th minute, controlling a pass from Coman in the box before turning and firing a low effort in at the near post.

There was late drama as Stuttgart were awarded a penalty in stoppage time for a foul on Santiago Ascacibar, but the hosts were denied a share of the spoils as Chadrac Akolo saw his spot-kick saved by Ulreich.
