VfL Borussia Monchengladbach winger Thorgan Hazard was happy to score a goal that wasn’t a penalty in the DFB Pokal on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old found the back of the net in the 52nd minute against Fortuna Dusseldorf as the visitors ground out a 1-0 victory to secure their place in the third round of the competition.
Hazard was especially pleased with the strike due to it coming from open play. The Belgian has scored both his Bundesliga goals this season from the penalty spot.

“It felt good to finally score from open play again. I’ve only scored penalties so far this season,” he told the club’s official website.
“It wasn’t my best goal, but it was an important one, both for me personally and for the whole team getting into the last 16. After our defeat against Bayer Leverkusen it was important to bounce back with a win in the cup.”
When asked about the upcoming league clash with Hoffenheim on Saturday, Hazard added: “Hoffenheim will give us a different game. It will be a difficult game against a very good side. They have lots of good players and play some really good football.
“We need to start well and defend well as a team. I hope we can take home the points. Until then, it’s important for us to regenerate.”
