Baier fined and banned for gesture

Daniel Baier

FC Augsburg captain Daniel Baier has received a one-match ban from the German Football Association (DFB) for the gesture he aimed at RB Leipzig head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The 33-year-old midfielder made the obscene motion during his team’s 1-0 win at the Augsburg Arena on Sunday, having had enough of Hasenhuttl’s constant moaning on the touchline.

The Austrian, who had protested numerous decisions made by referee Daniel Siebert on the day, refused to shake Baier’s hand after the match, and the player has since taken to social media to apologise for the incident.

The former Germany youth international has not escaped punishment for his actions, with the DFB handing him a €20,000 fine and a one-game suspension.

Baier will now be unavailable for the Bundesliga trip to newly-promoted Stuttgart on Saturday, having featured in every minute of Fuggerstadter’s opening five fixtures this season.
