Ulreich determined to take chance

FC Bayern München goalkeeper Sven Ulreich is eager to do his utmost to fill the shoes of Manuel Neuer during the first half of the season.

Neuer recently returned to action from a foot injury, but has suffered a recurrence of the problem and is set to be out for the rest of the year.

Ulreich returned to the starting line-up against Schalke on Tuesday and kept a clean sheet for Die Roten, who eased to a 3-0 win on the night.

“I’m happy about that. I was tested on a couple of occasions, but fortunately I managed to pull off a save here or there, which meant we were never really under pressure,” he told the official Bundesliga website.

“I was happy enough with it for a first game, but of course I need to get back into the swing of things properly.

“I just want to give it my all and put in my best performances. Sometimes the games won’t go as well, but I know what I’m capable of and I know that I can fill Manu’s boots.

“I want to prove that. It’s important, too, that we’re successful as a team. That’s the be-all and end-all.”
