Full report

When the game kicked off their was a sense of optimism amongst both sets of fans with a host of debutants on display – but at the full-time whistle the mood changed significantly among the Wolfsburg faithful.

Last season they scraped through to remain in the Bundesliga by winning the relegation play-offs and with a youthful side including four teenagers – Borussia Dortmund’s equally young side made them look like a bunch of kids.

Pegged back in their own half for most of the first 45 minutes, Die Wolfe conceded with two sublime goals.

The first from American wonder-kid Pulisic, the 18-year-old was picked out by returning playmaker Mario Gotze before he lashed in an unstoppable drive into the far post to beat goalkeeper Koen Casteels.

Bartra grabbed the second five minutes later with a cultured finish any striker would be proud of – as he curled a long range effort into the top corner beyond Casteels reach.

And in the second-half, the dominance in possession continued for Bosz’s side and they eventually added a third on the hour mark.

It had to be their Gabonese talisman to make presence felt, as last season’s Golden Boot winner proved once again why he is rated as one of Europes’s finest forwards.

Pulisic was again influential in the build up as he drilled a low cross to the back post that found the in-demand forward to slide in the third.
