The opening round of fixtures in the Bundesliga proved a trialling, testing time for coaches on the touchlines and beyond as Matchday 1 took those in charge in the league and in the Official Fantasy Bundesliga on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
The Official Fantasy Bundesliga has had tongues wagging in offices, parks and cafes ever since the weekend adrenaline rush subsided. There are now two weeks to react to the highs and lows of the first Fantasy weekend and make corrections and improvements for Matchday 2.
Like any coach on the touchline, the heat is already on the armchair tacticians with points and ground to be made up, and the right decisions to be taken. Three transfers are permitted between now and the next Matchday, but beware the price of the top performers has already increased! Can you be shrewd with your next selection?
There were few surprises with the leading points scorers in Matchday 1, with FC Bayern München striker Robert Lewandowski (24 points) topping the charts ahead of his team-mates, Thomas Müller (17) and Philipp Lahm (16).
While the Bayern trio’s success is no surprise, few would have expected the 1. FC Köln quartet of Anthony Modeste, Mergim Mavraj, Marcel Risse, and Frederik Sörensen (all 12 points) to be featuring in the top 15 point scorers. It’s those surprise performers who will prove to be the difference.
In the FOX Sports FC league it’s ‘YellowFellows’ who are out in front after Matchday 1 with 148 points, a total that’s good enough for 108th overall. ‘The Destroyer’ tops the world standings with a massive 170 points.
