Hamburg sign Hoffeinheim’s Schipplock

The 26-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Hamburg after making 84 Bundesliga appearances and scoring 16 goals for Hoffenheim.

“Sven has decided to seek a new challenge and we wish him all the best,” said Hoffenheim’s director of football Alexander Rosen on his club’s website.

Schipplock found the back of the net only three times in 25 appearances last season, although only eight of those were in the starting XI.

He nevertheless looks back fondly on his time in Sinsheim.

“It was an exciting time for me, but now it was the right step to seek a new challenge,” he said. “I will always have the best memories of the club and their fans.”

Hoffenheim also confirmed on Friday that 22-year-old midfielder Sandro Wieser has left to join Swiss club Thun, who reached the third qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday.

Wieser spent last season out on loan at Aarau and had one year left on his contract with Hoffenheim, but was deemed surplus to requirements by coach Markus Gisdol.
