Thai League Buriram Pedro Heberty Teerasil Thailand

We have taken a look at the costliest U-23 players in the Thai League already and now, let’s turn our attention to the five players who have the highest transfer values to their name in the Thai top flight.

It isn’t for nothing that the Thai League has developed a reputation as the strongest domestic league in Southeast Asia. The competition features some of the best players from the ASEAN region as well as international exports with huge pedigree.

So, let’s take a look at the five most valuable players in the Thai League right now.

5) Mike Havenaar – Bangkok United FC – €750,000

The 31-year-old Japan international moved to the Thai League in December 2018 and has a contract with Bangkok United till November 2019. Havenaar, born to Dutch parents in Japan, carries with him plenty of experience having played in the Japanese, Dutch, Spanish and Finnish top divisions before moving to Southeast Asia. The lanky striker also won 18 international caps for the Samurai Blue between 2011 and 2016 scoring four goals. Interestingly, his Bangkok United teammate Vander Luiz also commands a market value of €750,000.

4) Nelson Bonilla – Bangkok United FC – €800,000

Bangkok United, owned by telecommunications giant True Corporation, splashed the cash to bring home the domestic title this time around and one of their biggest signing was that of El Salvador international Bonilla. The 28-year-old had scored goals for fun in the Thai League last season at Sukhothai FC for whom he scored 25 from 33 appearances. And Bonilla is already repaying Bangkok’s investment in him having scored five goals from his first seven domestic matches this season.

3) Teerasil Dangda – Muangthong United FC – €900,000

There is no better candidate to become the only Thai player in this list than Teerasil Dangda. The playing career of the veteran striker might be reaching its dying embers, but he is still one of the most valued ASEAN players in the market at a price of €900,000. Teerasil returned to the Thai League this season after spending 2018 season in J. League club Sanfrecce Hiroshima and has scored two goals in the league already despite his club enjoying a bad run of results that led to the resignation of head coach Pairoj Borwonwatanadilok.

2) Heberty Fernandes – Muangthong United FC –  €1 million

The 30-year-old Brazilian is another vastly experienced player in the list having played club football at his native Brazil, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Thailand. After starring for Ratchaburi Mitr Phol FC between 2014 and 2016, the attacker decided to move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab in a transfer worth reportedly around  €2 million before returning to Southeast Asia with the Kirins in 2017. Heberty scored 26 goals and provided assists for another 13 in the 2018 Thai League season and Muangthong fans will be hoping the South American will help turn the fortunes of their favourite club soon.

1) Pedro Junior –  Buriram United FC – €1 million

Another perennial journeyman, Pedro Junior has strutted his stuff for fans of football in Brazil, Japan, Korea Republic China and now Thailand. The Brazilian moved to Asia in 2007 with J. League club Omiya Ardija and has spent most of his career in Japan with a brief South Korean stint with Jeju United in 2013. The 32-year-old also made a brief appearance in the Chinese Super League for Wuhan Zall on loan from Kashima Antlers in 2018. With Thunder Castles looking to challenge in the AFC Champions League 2019 as well as the Thai League, Pedro might prove to be an important piece in Bozidar Bandovic’s Buriram machine.
