AFC Cup 2019: Jordan’s Al-Jazeera strengthen hold on Group B, Kuwait SC earn three points as well

The Group B of the AFC Cup 2019 was in action on Monday, 15th April. Both Al-Jazeera and Kuwait strengthened their position as the top two of the group by registering respective victories.

Syria’s Al Ittihad welcomed Jordan’s Al-Jazeera at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi with the hopes of at least salvaging a point against the rampant group leaders. However, as it turned out, it was the team from Jordan who dominated throughout the 90 minutes to register a comfortable 2-0 victory, their third of the group stage in four matches.

Feras Shelbaieh opened the scoring from the spot in the 13th minute before and Noor Al-Deen Mahmoud Ali Al Rawabdeh doubled their advantage in the 43rd minute. With this win, they now have 10 points in four matches and are on the verge of qualifying for the next round.

Kuwait SC, on the other hand, registered a home win over Bahrain’s Al-Najma at the Al Kuwait Sports Club Stadium. The match was very important in terms of the group standing as second place was on offer for the winner. The home side got on the scoresheet first through Yaqoub Al Tararwa in the injury time of first half.

Jumaa Saeed then doubled the advantage in the 60th minute but the visitors fought back through Mouhamadou Drame five minutes later. The Al-Najma goal set the match up for a frantic finale but the hosts held on to get all three points and get to seven points in the group stage.

With two matches remaining in Group B, anything could happen with Kuwait and Al-Jazeera set to face off on the last matchday of the group.
