PFC Lokomotiv had to dig down deep to emerge with a point against Al Ittihad while a shootout between Al Wahda and Al Rayyan lit up Group B in the AFC Champions League 2019.
Al Ittihad took an early lead against Lokomotiv Tashkent, a team they had already pipped late in their first group encounter, but couldn’t hang on for all three points as the home side equalised before heading into the break.
Romarinho scored for Al Ittihad in the 12th minute, after being found in space inside the penalty box from a corner.
However, the away team couldn’t hold on to the lead for too long as Temurkhuja Abdukholikov levelled the tie, latching on to a long ball from a freekick and poking home.
And despite Lokomotiv captain Islom Tukhtakhujaev being sent off for hacking down Al Muwallad when he was through on goal 15 minutes from time, the home team did not concede any more goals and saw out a 1-1 result.
Meanwhile, Al Wahda scripted a comeback of epic proportions against Al Rayyan in the other group B clash, having been 3-1 down and going on to win 4-3.
It was all Al Rayyan early on as goals from Sebastian Soria and a double from Gelmin Rivas sandwiched a solitary strike from Brazilian Leonardo for the home side, to ensure that the visitors went into half time with a comfortable 3-1 lead.
However, Al Wahda came out with a point to prove after the break and striker Leonardo leading the charge.
He reduced the deficit to one goal in the 56th minute, with some fine poacher work inside the box, before sealing his hattrick and drawing his team level on the night in the 82nd minte, with a tap in.
However, he still wasn’t done with the pyrotechnics as he grabbed his fourth of the night and the goal that would turn out to be the winner as play drew to a close, heading home from close range.
