Ahead of Match Day 4 of AFC Champions League 2019, we take a closer look at Guangzhou Evergrande’s brilliant Brazilian Anderson Talisca as this week’s Player to Watch.

As two-time champions of the AFC Champions League, Guangzhou Evergrande’s continental successes have long been synonymous with profilic Brazilian marksman.

Anderson Talisca: AFC CL MD4 Player to Watch

When the Chinese Super League giants won their maiden title in 2013, Muriqui finished as the competition’s top scorer with 13 goals – five ahead of closest challenger and team-mate Dario Conca.

Then, two years later, it was Ricardo Goulart who claimed the Golden Boot with his eight-goal haul as Evergrande claimed their second ACL crown in three seasons.

Success has since eluded the Guangdong-based outfit but they have started well in 2019 and it should come as no surprise there is another Brazilian sensation leading their line in Anderson Talisca.

With four goals in three matches, the 25-year-old is currently the joint-second top scorer in the competition with Al Ittihad’s Fahad Al-Muwallad and just one behind leader Graziano Pelle of Shandong Luneng.

But, while the likes of Muriqui and Goulart were more of the 18-yard box predators, Talisca has proven to be equally capable of being a poacher close to goal as he is producing the absolute sublime.

Safawi Rasid or Talisca – Whose AFC Champions League screamer was better?

His second in the 4-0 rout of Melbourne Victory a fortnight ago was a sheer piece of brilliance, but the goal he netted in a 3-1 loss to Daegu FC on Match Day 2 required much more skill than most realise as he deftly guided the ball into the back of the net at full stretch from an acute angle.

With Evergrande currently tied at the top of Group F alongside Daegu and Sanfrecce on six points, another Talisca-inspired win away to Victory on Tuesday would see them move one step closer to a third successive knockout round appearance.
