Sanfrecce Hiroshima end Daegu FC’s ACL perfect start to make it two in a row

Debutants Daegu FC’s perfect record in AFC Champions League 2019 finally came to an end on Wednesday as they were beaten 2-0 by Sanfrecce Hiroshima at the Hiroshima Big Arch.

The J1 League outfit were presented with the perfect opportunity to open the scoring early on when a wild swing at the ball from Daegu’s Park Han-bin saw him catch Yuki Nogami inside the area and concede a penalty, paving the way for Douglas Vieira to convert for a 10th-minute lead.

Four minutes before the half-hour mark, Sanfrecce doubled their advantage courtesy of a fine individual effort by Daiki Watari, who cut in from the left and made space for himself before sending a low shot arrowing into the bottom corner.

From then on, the hosts never looked in danger of relinquishing their lead although their evening was soured a minute from time when Yusuke Minagawa was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Nonetheless, with their second consecutive win in the competition, Sanfrecce are now find themselves joint-top of Group F at the halfway point of the group stage.
