Al Ain produced a spirited fightback on Monday to come from behind and hold Al Duhail to a 2-2 draw in AFC Champions League 2019 Group C.

It was the hosts who broke the deadlock at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium after just nine minutes when Edmilson Junior hit the byline before cutting the ball back to the edge of the box, where Karim Boudiaf was on hand to send a sweetly-struck volley into the bottom corner.

Then, in the 32nd minute, Al Duhail found more joy down the right – this time with the overlapping Mohammed Musa, whose cross was met by Youssef El-Arabi with an instinctive first-time finish into the back of the net.

But, just four minutes later, the visitors grabbed a lifeline courtesy of Jamal Ibrahim, who snuck in behind the opposition defence before coolly slotting past Amine Lecomte.

Al Ain then spurned an excellent chance to equalise in the 56th minute after they were awarded a penalty, with Lecomte guessing correctly to keep out Caio’s effort from 12 yards.

Nonetheless, Lecomte undid his good work just two minutes later to hand the Emirati outfit what proved to be the equaliser, spilling a routine catch from Jamal’s right-wing cross to allow Marcus Berg to knee the ball home from a couple of yards out.

AL DUHAIL: Amine Lecomte, Mohammed Musa, Bassam Al-Rawi, Mehdi Benatia, Sultan Al-Brake (Ali Afif 69’), Luiz Junior, Karim Boudiaf, Edmilson Junior, Shoya Nakajima (Abdullah Al-Ahrak 89’), Almoez Ali, Youssef El-Arabi.
