A shocking stat has emerged following Urawa Red Diamonds’ goalless draw against Beijing Guoan in Group G of the AFC Champions League 2019 on Wednesday — that the Reds had not registered even a single shot during the 90 minutes of action!
It’s not the shots on target that we are talking about — the club from Japan have failed to register any kind of shot at all against the Chinese Super League opposition at the Workers’ Stadium in Beijing.

Having lifted the biggest prize in Asian club football only a couple of seasons ago — in 2017 defeating Al Hilal Saudi FC in the final — and having breezed past Thai League champions Buriram United 3-0 in the opener, one would have expected the brilliantly named team to bring some of that flare into their game.
But those who expected them to take that game to the Orient were left might disappointed as Urawa registered zero shot in the game compared to 20 fired by their opponents Beijing Guoan.
However, that didn’t stop them from taking one point home from the fixture as Beijing failed to score a winner despite firing four shots on target (zero, obviously, by Urawa) playing 616 passes (compared to 316 by Urawa) and enjoying 66.4 per cent of possession (33.6 by Urawa)!
Highlights – Beijing Guoan vs Urawa Red Diamonds
Urawa will next face Jeonbuk Hyundai at home in the ACL 2019 on April 9 and their fans will be hoping to see at least one of their players letting a shot fly sometime during that 90 minutes at the Saitama Stadium on that day. Fingers crossed!
