AFC Champions League 2019: Al Sadd score last minute winner to register massive win against Persepolis

AFC Champions League 2019: Al Sadd 1-0 Persepolis – Baghdad Bounedjah (90+4′)

Last year’s AFC Champions League finalists Persepolis were condemned to a 1-0 loss against Al Sadd at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha. Persepolis failed to win their second consecutive encounter in the tournament this year.

Baghdad Bounedjah scored the only goal of the encounter in the fifth minute of injury time to earn the first three points for the home side in the tournament. But it wasn’t all easy for the Qatar club as Persepolis had their moments in the match.

After a great chance early in the ninth minute of the game, Ahmad Noorollahi came excruciatingly close to opening the scoring six minutes later but Saad Al Sheeb was quick to deny him. The Al Sadd goalkeeper was forced into another save after 10 minutes but he made sure that both the sides go into the break on level terms.

Baghdad Bounedjah, on the other hand, was a live wire for the home side and kept threatening the Iran side’s defence at regular intervals. However, Alireza Beiranvand was ever present to deny the Al Sadd forward on multiple occasions.

Bounedjah had the last laugh though as he headed in from close range to earn three points for the hosts in the injury time.
