The Bolton Wanderers man was carried off the field on a stretcher during his side's opening round victory over Oman on Sunday after injuring his leg.
Scans have revealed that Lee has suffered a hairline fracture in his right tibia, ruling him out of the remainder of the tournament.
“It’s a big loss because every time Lee was with the team, he was in the starting line-up and with Bolton Wanderers as well he’s always on the pitch,” commented head coach Uli Stielike after Tuesday's win over Kuwait.
“He’s a player with a lot of experience, it’s not only sad for the guy but I saw a lot of sad faces around him. But we have to go on; life of a professional player is like that, it can always happen.”
Having begun their campaign with back-to-back victories, Korea Republic have already guaranteed their place in the next round ahead of their final group fixture against Australia.
