The goal was scored by Abdulaziz Al Muqbali in the second half.
The win was a special one for Oman as it was their first victory at the Asian Cup since 2004.
Having lost to Australia and South Korea and going home no matter the result, both teams took long-range shots in a first-half offering very little excitement.
In the 69th minute, when the match looked like it was heading for a goalless draw, the goal came when Al Maqbali scored with a header to hand his side the lead.
The goal seemed to bring life into a somewhat dull game with Al Maqbali almost snatching a hat-trick inside three minutes, shooting wide with a volley and then having his header cleared off the goalline.
In the end Al Maqbali’s goal gave his side the win.
