Japan international Takashi Inui has joined Real Betis on a three-year deal from fellow La Liga outfit Eibar.

Betis confirmed the move on Friday, as they announced the capture of Inui with an elaborate – and somewhat peculiar – video featuring famous Japanese pop culture icons such as Dragon Ball, Doraemon, and “Luigi” of Super Mario Bros. fame.

The transfer rounds off what has been a fine couple of days for the 29-year-old, who was on Thursday named in Japan’s final 23-man squad for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup.

After starting his career in his homeland, first with Yokohama F. Marinos and then with Cerezo Osaka, Inui earned his move to Europe in 2011 when he was signed by German club Bochum.

He went on to join Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played alongside compatriot Makoto Hasebe, before Eibar broke their transfer record to sign him for €300,000 back in August 2015.

After 11 goals in 94 games, including a memorable left-footed half-volley against Barcelona last May, Inui will now start a new chapter of his career with the Andalusian side, who finished 6th in La Liga this past season.
