JDT defeated the Indian side 4-1 in their Group F match up at the Larkin Stadium on Tuesday. Sali was thrilled about his part in the victory.
Sali told the Star about his feelings after his stunning bicycle kick.
He said: "I badly needed a goal to restore my confidence. In football, we have to make split-second decisions and when I saw the ball floating… I knew it was my chance to get on the scoresheet. I did not think too long about it and I'm thankful that the ball sailed into the net.
"I hope the goal will lead to an improvement in my career, especially in this year's campaign."
Sali also revealed he hopes he will earn a call-up to the national team as a result of the goal, despite only scoring once during Malaysia's AFF Suzuki Cup campaign.
He added: "Every footballer wants to wear the Harimau Malaya jersey. I'm back from injury and in good shape now. I'm comfortable with JDT and their coaching staff. I will repay their faith in me by helping the team win titles."
