Khoun Laboravy came off the bench to help Cambodia record a 1-0 win over Laos in Wednesday’s international friendly at the New Laos National Stadium.
The Boeung Ket striker emerged as the hero with four minutes remaining, finding space at the back post to meet Prak Mony Udom’s freekick and guiding a header into the back of the net.
Having opted to blood the likes of Ouk Sovann, Sok Heang, Mat Noron and Sin Kakada, who all won their first caps on Wednesday, Cambodia coach Prak Sovannara will be pleased with his charges’ performance ahead of next Tuesday’s meeting with Afghanistan.
Regardless of the outcome of that final 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifier in Dushanbe, the Cambodians are out of contention with Jordan and Vietnam guaranteed to qualify as the top two in Group C.
However, Cambodia and Afghanistan are currently level on three points and both will be looking to avoid the ignominy of a bottom-place finish at the very least.
