As a result of the goalless draw, Guangzhou continue to occupy third place in the Group F standings, while Seongnam overtook Buriram United atop the table following the Thai side's 2-1 loss to Gamba Osaka.
However, with only three points separating Seongnam and Buriram from Guangzhou and Gamba, Contra feels that his side are not out of the running just yet.
"Mathematically, we are still very much in with a chance," he told the South China Morning Post. "I trust my players to do what needs to be done and they don't need to be told as to how important the remaining two games are."
Despite the draw, Contra believes that Guangzhou will win their last two games against Gamba and Buriram if they play like they did against Seongnam.
"If we play like we did tonight then, although we didn't win, we have a good chance," he said.
