AFC change days for West Zone matches

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed that all West Zone AFC Champions League and AFC Cup matches will be played on Monday and Tuesday from next season.

The AFC decided on the change at the AFC Competitions Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday after Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates claimed that holding matches on Tuesday and Wednesday was having a negative impact on domestic football in their respective countries.

According to the three Member Associations, having matches on Tuesday and Wednesday is affecting attendance, the number of television viewers and match revenue for clubs competing in the West Zone as they also play domestic matches on Sundays.

The AFC Competitions Committee decided to go through with the change as it will only affect a small proportion of West Zone AFC Champions League matches, as Tuesday is already one of the assigned match days.
