Hosts Vietnam completed a regulation 3-1 victory over Philippines on Friday evening as they completed their AFF Suzuki Cup group stage campaign on a high.
Despite the defeat, Philippines joined Vietnam in the semi-finals, with their spot in the final four guaranteed before the fixture.
Ngo Hoang Thinh put Vietnam ahead after just nine minutes, with the striker finding the bottom corner after Philippines ‘keeper Patrick Deyto was slow to get down.
Vietnam had chances to double their advantage before the interval – and they really should have done so – but they were unable to add further to their tally in the first half.
Toshiya Miura's side would have no such troubles in the second period though, with Vu Minh Tuan doubling the lead after 50 minutes, the midfielder latching onto a through ball from Hoang Thinh.
Pham Thanh Luong made it three eight minutes later, with his dipping effort beating Deyto.
Substitute Paul Mulders pulled one back for Philippines a minute later, but there would be no dramatic comeback.
