It looks like IR Iran international winger Mehdi Taremi is headed back to his home nation after reports are linking him with a move back to his former club Persepolis FC.

Taremi had left Persepolis in January 2018 to sign an 18-month contract with Qatar Stars League side Al Gharafa SC and is set to become a free agent come July 2019.

The 26-year-old was part of Carlos Queiroz’s Iran squad for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup held in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year scoring three goals in the continental championship. He has 40 international caps for Team Melli.

Taremi had joined Persepolis in the Persian Gulf Pro League from second division side Iranjavan  ahead of the 2014-15 season and scored 45 goals in 80 league matches for the Red Army.

Al Gharafa coach Christian Gourcuff is reluctant to continue with the Iranian player even though he has scored seven goals in 17 appearances for the club in 2018-19, according to Tasnim News Agency.

Persepolis managed by Branko Ivankovic reached the final of the AFC Champions League last season and are on course to win their third successive domestic league title in Iran this season.
