Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) President Dato’ Haji Hamidin has officially taken his name away from the AFC Vice-President election for the ASEAN Zone, despite receiving multiple nominations.
Official releases from the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) and FAM show that Dato’ Haji Hamidin has instead decided to focus his energies on becoming an Executive Committee member of the AFC in the future.
The report suggests that the FAM supremo has pulled his name from the running but will fully support MFF President Zaw Zaw in his bid to win the election.
“I hold Zaw Zaw in high regard. Having considered all options, I have decided to withdraw from the vice-presidency contest even-though I got nominated from the affiliates and instead channel my energy towards garnering support for a seat in the exco,” Dato’ Haji Hamidin was quoted as saying.
“Of paramount importance is the spirit of camaraderie and unity displayed by member associations of AFF,” he continued.
Zaw Zaw is currently the Vice-President for the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), and has the backing of several top executives within the board as he prepares for the upcoming AFC election.
The AFC election for various top positions including the President, Vice-Presidents, FIFA Council Members etc. will take place on April 6.
