Vietnam and Hanoi FC full-back Doan Van Hau has responded after being linked with a move to German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.
According to reports the other day, the Bundesliga club are eyeing the 19-year-old left-back as a replacement for 33-year-old Swedish full-back Oscar Wendt who has been with the club since 2011.
Van Hau, who has helped Vietnam win the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 and also reach the quarterfinals of the AFC Asian Cup 2019, has now reacted to the rumours linking him with the European club.
“Every football player wants to play in big stages. I have a dream that is going abroad, and I’m still trying to make it happen in the future,” Van Hau told VNExpress.
Đoàn Văn Hậu to Borussia Monchengladbach?
“I want to play in Europe. In Asia, I want to go to a developed football country like Japan or Korea Republic. I don’t want to go to Thailand, because their national league is not better than Vietnam,” said the Vietnam international.
“Hanoi and owner Do Quang Hien always love and care for me. When the right time comes, they will decide what is best for my future. But I will be very well prepared when the time comes to go and play abroad,” the teenager added.
Borussia are current fourth in the Bundesliga standings only behind Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. They last participated in the UEFA Champions League in the 2016-17 season.
Van Hau, who was also part of the Vietnam U-23 squad that finished runners-up in the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship, will soon join the national team set-up as they prepare for the Southeast Asian Games and the 2020 AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers.
