Fiorentina midfielder Mario Suarez admits he is not yet familiar with the style of football employed by the Serie A club.
The Spanish midfielder made the switch from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window and has made six appearances for La Viola so far.
"The way Fiorentina plays is different than what I'm used to," Saurez told Gazetta dello Sport. "Fiorentina always control the game and take the initiative, while Atletico Madrid were a counter-attacking team when I was there.
"Here, our opponents are the ones closing themselves up and I'm asked to play in a different role in which I have to take 90 touches per game and move around a lot."
His integration into the side has been gradual as a result, but he is beginning to play a more prominent role, featuring in each of Fiorentina's last three games and scoring his first Serie A goal against Frosinone at the beginning of the month.
"Atletico has won championships and competitions and has played in a Champions League final, but Fiorentina has finished fourth in Serie A for three consecutive years," he added.
"We need to improve because under the current system, Italy is only allowed to send its top three squads to play in the Champions League.
"Atletico Madrid is my team for life because while I was there I achieved my dreams. I needed a new challenge, so I chose to come to Fiorentina.
"I don't regret my decision, I am happy here."
