Jack Wilshere has been forced to withdraw from the England squad ahead of Tuesday’s international friendly with Italy at Wembley.
The Arsenal midfielder remained in England as his teammates flew to Amsterdam to take on the Netherlands on Friday, where Jesse Lingard earned his side a 1-0 win.
Wilshere had been hoping to recover in time from a minor knee complaint to feature against the Azzuri, but has remained with the Gunners for treatment.
The 26-year-old, who has been in fine form for Arsenal in the past few months, last played for the Three Lions at Euro 2016.
A couple of squad updates as we head to London:

England confirmed the news on Twitter: “Jack Wilshere won’t feature against Italy and has now withdrawn from the group.”
Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, meanwhile, who was substituted after just five minutes against the Dutch, will remain with the squad.
England manager Gareth Southgate explained: “He seemed to take a knock in the air and land a bit awkwardly, so we need to check that one.”
