Match Summary

Foxes caretaker manager Michael Appleton was looking for his second straight win since replacing Craig Shakespeare at the helm, but his night got off to a bad start as the Championship outfit took a 26th-minute lead through Pablo Hernandez.

Thomas Christiansen’s side found their feet first after a scrappy opening, and Jay-Roy Grot saw his close-range effort blocked by Ben Hamer after playing a one-two with Kemar Roofe.

Hamer was called into action again moments later when Roofe got off a shot from the edge of the box, but there was nothing he could do to prevent Hernandez from breaking the deadlock on 26 minutes.

The Spanish winger found himself surrounded by defenders, but did well to make room for a shot from 25 yards out that went in off the crossbar.

Their lead lasted just four minutes, however, as Iheanacho latched onto a mistake from Felix Wiedwald, who challenged Islam Slimani but diverted the ball into the path of the Nigerian, who slotted home from 19 yards out to get off the mark for Leicester.

The Premier League club then piled on the pressure, with Demarai Gray failing to capitalise on another spill from Wiedwald, before the winger smashed an effort against the bar from just outside the area.

After Gray, Andy King and Slimani failed to take the opportunities that came their way, the hosts finally struck again on 71 minutes through the Algerian striker, who converted Iheanacho’s low cross from close range.

Mahrez made certain of victory at the death as he went on a mazy run and picked out the bottom-left corner of the net with a shot from outside the box two minutes from time.
